Salt River – Middle Canyon Map
Whitewater adventurers will find a dynamic display of geologic formations and life-giving water as they descend into the Middle Canyon from the Upper Canyon of the Salt River.
Entering the remote Salt Canyon Wilderness Area, giant saguaro, barrel, and hedgehog cactus greet you with a display of flailing arms and prickle spines.
Wildflowers are abundant from the spring rains in a mosaic of color, texture, and smells.
But don’t get caught up smelling the flowers, the Middle Canyon holds solid Class III-IV rapids including Black Rock, The Maze, and the infamous Quartzite Falls.
Private permits are required from March 1st to May 15, and group size is limited to 15.
From the Middle Canyon, Arizona whitewater rafting enthusiasts will be greeted by the incredible scenery and thrilling rapids of the Lower Canyon.
